Private households in the Health Survey

The Health Survey conducted by Statistics Netherlands is a survey held among the Dutch population living in private households. The results of the survey only refer to this particular population. Last year, a vast majority of Dutch were living in private households; 1.3 percent were living in institutional households and were excluded form the Health Survey. In the population aged 55 and older – the target group of this article – 3.0 percent were living in institutional households; in this group, 82.1 percent were living in homes for the elderly and nursing homes. Although this group was not included in the survey, and the results of the survey have no bearing on them, it is very likely that among people living in homes for the elderly and nursing homes many have physical limitations which affect their ability to perform general daily activities.
