Special income support

People are eligible for special income support only if, due to special circumstances, their costs cannot be covered by the general social security benefit.
Included are all types of social assistance exceeding the general social security benefit (basic standard benefit plus allowances) or another source of income or benefit, i.e. income from work, Old Age Pension Act (AOW), Disablement Act for Self-employed (WAZ), Income Provision Act for Disabled Young People (Wajong), etc. A person’s income is always verified.

This article surveys persons aged 18 years or older, who have received an special income support benefit on an individual basis. The amounts in this article refer to all types of special income support granted to persons, irrespective of age and categorical as well as non-categorical.

In the case of non-categorical special income support, the personal situation of each individual applicant is checked by the municipal authorities in order to find out whether they are eligible for support; in the case of categorical special income support (i.e. special support for particular groups in the population, like older and disabled people or parents with young schoolgoing children), the individual situation is not at all or only marginally checked.
