Consumer confidence historically low
The mood among Dutch consumers deteriorated further in June. The consumer confidence indicator fell by 2 points to – 40, equalling the trough in July 2003.

Consumers were more pessimistic about the economic climate in June than in May. This component indicator of consumer confidence dropped by 4 points to – 65. Consumers were in particular more negative about the economic situation over the next twelve months. They were also more negative about the economic situation over the past twelve months, though to a lesser extent.
With – 23, the component indicator willingness-to-buy remains at a historically low level. Consumers’ opinions on their own financial situation over the past 12 months deteriorated marginally. Consumers’ confidence in their own financial situation over the next 12 months remained invariably (– 25). Their opinions on whether the time was right to buy durable goods like furniture, washing machines or TV sets did not change.
