For this article, Statistics Netherlands has surveyed immigration to the Netherlands since 1960. Immigration of Polish citizens to the Netherlands has been going on since 1900, predominantly to the mining district in the province of Limburg, although the number of Polish immigrants was low, in particular in proportion to the current number of immigrants. According to the national censuses held in 1930, 1947, 1960 and 1971, the number of Polish residents living in the Netherlands varied around 6 thousand in these years.
