Dutch consumers less pessimistic

The mood among Dutch consumers improved in April. The consumer confidence indicator rose by 7 points to – 32, but consumer confidence is still at a very low level.

Consumers were far less negative about the general economic climate in April than they were in March. This component indicator of consumer confidence increased by 12 points to reach – 53. Consumers’ opinions on the economic situation over the next twelve months improved most noticeably. They were also less negative about the economic situation over the past twelve months, though to a lesser extent.

Consumers were also less pessimistic about their own financial situation. They thought the time was somewhat less unfavourable to buy durable goods like furniture, washing machines or TV sets. The component indicator willingness to buy rose by 3 points to – 19. Yet, willingness to buy remains at a very low level.
