Netherlands one of the most affluent countries in the EU
Just as in 2009, in 2010 the Netherlands had the second highest level of prosperity in the EU. Dutch gross domestic product (GDP) per capita was more than 33 percent higher than the average in the EU. Only in Luxembourg was per capita GDP higher. Bulgaria had the lowest level of prosperity.
As a result of the economic crisis, the relative level of prosperity in Greece, Italy and Spain deteriorated by most. Per capita GDP in Greece was 10 percent below the EU average. In 2009 it was still only 6 percent below average.
