In October 2011, 525 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, approximately the same number as in September.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days the courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-month moving average is a more reliable indicator.
The three-month moving average was 519 in October versus 498 in September. The number of bankruptcies has fluctuated around the 500 mark for over a year now.
