Teenage fathers

The number of teenage fathers is based upon the exact age of the father at childbirth, unlike most other demographic publications, where the basis is the age of the father at 31 December. In specific cases, for example in the case of teenage fathers, figures may vary considerably, according to the definition of age employed in the survey.

When young girls give birth, the identity of the father is often unknown. For that reason, the number of teenage fathers is an estimate.
