Age of first-time fathers

The age of the father at the birth of his child as presented in this article is – strictly speaking – his age at the birth of the mother’s first child.

The identity of the child’s father not always being known, it is sometimes uncertain whether a child registered as first child is indeed the father’s first child. The rank number of the child was not taken into account before 2010. For the time being, it is impossible to calculate the average age of the father at the birth of the first child. Instead, the average age of the father at the birth of the mother’s first child is published.
