Supplementary income provision for older people (AIO)
Since 1 January 2010, the Social Insurance Bank (SVB) is responsible for transferring supplementary income benefits to over-65s who are not entitled to the full AOW benefit and do not have enough other resources or property. This benefit is termed the Supplementary Income Provision for Older People (AIO). At the age of 65, when people are eligible for AOW, the SVB pays the supplementary income provision to those who qualify. The person receives the partial AOW benefit plus the AIO benefit. AOW recipients living with younger partners also receive the AIO benefit from the SVB, but municipal authorities remain responsible for the reintegration of the younger partner. Statistics Netherlands publishes the data under the Act on Work and Income Support (WWB).
