Turnover sector hotels and restaurants improves considerably

• Hotels, restaurants and cafeterias generate higher turnover
• Turnover pubs lagging behind

According to the latest figures released by Statistics Netherlands, turnover generated by the sector hotels and restaurants in the second quarter of 2011 was 6.6 percent up on the same perod last year. Turnover growth exceeded 6 percent for the second quarter in a row, mainly due to a volume increase by 3.7 percent. Prices were 2.7 percent higher.

With an average growth by more than 8 percent, turnover generated by hotels, restaurants and cafeterias in the second quarter was considerably higher than in the second quarter of 2010. Cafeterias realised the highest turnover growth (9.4 percent) relative to the second quarter of last year. Prices rose by 3.2 percent, volume was 6 percent up from one year previously.

With a 2.3 percent turnover growth, pubs underperformed relative to the rest of the sector. Higher prices accounted entirely for the growth. Turnover volume contracted by 0.8 percent, whereas in the first quarter of this year, volume was nearly 2 percent up from one year previously.
