The Independent Post and Telecommunications Authority (OPTA) recently released data on mobile Internet use showing that more than one in three people in the Netherlands use mobile Internet. The figures presented in this article by Statistics Netherlands show that about one third of Internet users use mobile equipment. OPTA covers the entire Dutch population, but Statistics Netherlands only monitors those who have access to the Internet (approximately 12 million individuals). As a result, Statistics Netherlands arrives at about 25 percent of the population, i.e. much lower than OPTA, but the figures released by OPTA refer to the amount of active connections (more than 120 percent of people with mobile Internet), while the figures published by Statistics Netherlands only refer to the number of individuals.
