Wage earner
On the basis of the Labour Force Survey (EBB) and the Income Survey, a person is defined as a wage earner, if they meet the following two criteria:
1) he/she has indicated in the EBB to belong to the employed labour force, i.e. to have a paid job of at least 12 hours a week and
2) he/she has indicated in the Income Survey to earn their own income. The term ’own income’ may refer to an income from labour and/or own enterprise. The (gross) income from labour and enterprise is also called personal primary income.
The number of wage earners only includes members of the household nucleus. Children living at home with small part-time jobs, for example, are not included. A single-income couple is defined as a couple with one partner belonging to the employed labour force. A two-income couple is defined as a couple with both partners belonging to the employed labour force.
The target population includes all (un)married couples with both partners aged between 15 and 65.
