Unemployment virtually unchanged

According to the latest figures by Statistics Netherlands, the seasonally adjusted Dutch unemployment figure in November 2010 stood at 409 thousand. This is down by one thousand on October.
UWV shows that the number of job seekers went up slightly in November. The number of unemployment benefits hardly changed compared to October.
Hardly any fewer people unemployed
The seasonally adjusted unemployment figure in November 2010 was down by one thousand. In the previous three months the number of unemployed fell by an average of 2 thousand a month. This is less than in the preceding six months when unemployment fell by an average of 6 thousand a month.
The November figures that were not seasonally adjusted showed that 403 thousand people were unemployed. This equals 5.2 percent of the labour force. Compared to November 2009 the number of unemployed was down by 14 thousand. The number of unemployed people aged between 15 and 25 was down by 18 thousand on November 2009, while the number of unemployed people over 45 was up by 12 thousand.
Slight increase in job seekers
At UWV WERK the number of unemployed job seekers increased by nearly 1 percent in November 2010 on October, reaching 484 thousand.
There was an above average increase in the number of job seekers in the provinces Zeeland (+3.5 percent) and Groningen (+3.1 percent and in elementary (+2.5 percent) and lower occupations (+1.6 percent). The greatest increase in the lower occupations was in the technical occupations (+3.3 percent).
Far fewer unemployment benefits terminated
For the first time since March there were more new than terminated unemployment benefits. The number of new unemployment benefits rose by nearly 2 percent in November, reaching 32 thousand.
The number of terminated unemployment benefits fell by nearly 16 percent within one month. This meant that the number of unemployment benefits paid in November went up by 0.1 percent to 264 thousand.
