Heathland is one of the vegetation types, alongside dunes, marshland, forest, semi-natural grass land and farmland, which include a large number of experimental areas of the National Flora Monitoring Scheme. This monitoring scheme is a joint project of the provinces, the Netherlands Environmental Assessment Agency and Statistics Netherlands, within the framework of the Ecological Monitoring Network, and was commissioned by the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality.
