During a fast-track divorce procedure, the marriage is first converted into a registered partnership. Subsequently, the registered partnership construction is dissolved. The fast-track divorce procedure was introduced on 1 April 2001 and abolished on 1 March 2009. In the period 2001-2009, 30 thousand couples were involved in fast-track divorce proceedings. The highest number of fast-track divorces was recorded in the period 2003-2005, when approximately 5 thousand couples annually opted for a fast-track divorce procedure. In 2009, the number of fast-track divorces (prior to abolition) was below one thousand, versus 2.8 thousand over the entire year 2008. Back to article
