Number of bankruptcies marginally up
In August this year, 530 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, an increase by 25 relative to July. The number of bankruptcies was more than 10 higher than in August 2009.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
The three-monthly moving average climbed somewhat after May 2010 to reach 567 in August, i.e. more than 40 up on July.
