In the period 2001-2004, the annual rent increase (excluding rent harmonisation) was based on average inflation in the preceding five calendar years. From 2005 to 2007 it was based on inflation in the previous year, with a fixed surcharge percentage. In 2007 the fixed surcharge percentage was abolished, and now rents may only be increased by the rate of inflation in the previous year. The permitted increase in 2010 is 1.2 percent. This is only the case for rented homes on the non-liberalised market. Back to article
