485 bankruptcies in April
In April this year, 485 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt. This is almost 160 fewer than in March.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
In April, the three-monthly moving average stood at 564. This is equal to March and slightly higher than in the first two months of 2010. In these months the number of bankruptcies was around 540.
