Unemployment up further
In the period January–March 2010, seasonally adjusted unemployment stood at 447 thousand, an increase of 6 thousand on the period December 2009–February 2010.
Unemployment was 131 thousand higher than in January –March 2009. Male unemployment increased by 78 thousand, female unemployment by 53 thousand. Unemployment increased across all age groups and for both sexes.
On average, 6.1 percent of the total Dutch labour force were unemployed, compared with 4.4 percent one year previously. Unemployment rates for the male and female labour force were 5.9 and 6.4 percent respectively. The highest unemployment rate was recorded among both men and woman aged between 15 and 25, of whom 13.6 percent were jobless.
