Marginal increase bankruptcies
In March this year, 640 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt, i.e. an increase by more than 70 compared to the preceding month.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
In March, the three-monthly moving average stood at 564, i.e. an increase by 30 relative to February. In the preceding months, the number of bankruptcies had dropped gradually.
