560 bankruptcies
In February this year, 560 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) in the Netherlands were declared bankrupt. The number of bankruptcies increased by more than 70 compared to January.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary considerably from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
In February, the three-monthly moving average stood at 532, i.e. a decrease by 10 relative to January. The three-monthly moving average hovered around 600 in the period April-September 2009 and subsequently dropped gradually.
