Factory gate prices further up
Factory gate prices in Dutch manufacturing were nearly 5 percent higher in January than one year previously. In December, prices of manufactured products were 1 percent higher. After a year of price cuts, prices are rising again.
The larger increase in January is closely related to price developments in the chemical industry. In this sector, prices rose by nearly 10 percent in January. In December, however, prices dropped by more than 8 percent relative to one year previously. With nearly 43 percent, the price increase in the oil industry was in the same order of magnitude as in December.
Manufacturers of tobacco products raised their prices by more than 4 percent, but in some branches of manufacturing industry, prices were lower than one year previously. With more than 6 percent, prices dropped by most in the basic metal industry.
Prices in Dutch manufacturing industry increased by 1.4 percent in January compared to December 2009. For the fourth consecutive month, prices were higher than in the preceding month. With 1.7 percent, prices on the foreign market rose faster than prices on the domestic market (1.0 percent).
