Unemployment rising further
In the period October–December 2009, seasonally adjusted unemployment stood at 425 thousand, an increase of 11 thousand on the period September - November.
The figure was 125 thousand higher than October–December 2008. Unemployment increased for both sexes and in all age groups. Male unemployment increased by 76 thousand, female unemployment by 49 thousand.
On average, 5.3 percent of the total Dutch labour force were unemployed in October-December 2009. Unemployment rates for the male and female labour force were 4.9 and 5.8 percent respectively. The highest unemployment rate was recorded among people aged between 15 and 25, of whom 11.4 percent were jobless.
