Mopeds in the Netherlands

Since 1 September 2005, all mopeds and light mopeds in the Netherlands have registered number plates. 

The category mopeds largely comprises mopeds, light mopeds and microcars.

• mopeds are two-wheeled vehicles with a maximum speed of 45 km/hour. There is a moped and a scooter version;
• light mopeds are two-wheeled vehicles with a maximum speed of 25 km/hour. There is also a motor and a scooter version. This category also includes bicycles with electric propulsion.
• microcars are four-wheeled vehicles with a maximum speed of 45 km/hour.
