Body weight
The Body Mass Index (BMI) is a measurement for over and underweight. BMI is defined as a person’s body weight in kilogrammes divided by the square of their height in metres [kg/m2]. The analyses do not include respondents whose body weight and/or height is unknown and respondents with an unlikely relation between body weight and height. The latter case refers to individuals with a BMI in the range below 14 or above 40. The division in weight categories comprises:
• Persons with a BMI below 18.5 kg/m2 are underweight.
• Persons with a BMI ranging from 18.5 kg/m2 to 25.0 kg/m2 have a normal weight.
• Persons with a BMI between 25.0 kg/m2 and 30.0 kg/m2 have moderate overweight.
• Persons with a BMI of 30.0 kg/m2 and higher are obese.
The figures refer to individuals aged 20 years and older.
