The dwelling stock on 1 January 2008 constitutes the basis for the survey on occupied holiday homes. The Dwelling Register of Statistics Netherlands and the municipal population registers are linked to establish whether holiday homes are occupied or not. A municipal population register includes all persons registered in a particular municipality on a particular date. Both databases comprise address data. The link between both databases provides information on whether a person owning a holiday home lives there on a permanent basis. Back to article
