620 bankruptcies
In September 2009, 620 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) were declared bankrupt, i.e. over 100 more than in August this year. Compared to September 2008, the number of bankruptcies almost doubled.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
In September, the three-monthly moving average was around 600 for the sixth month in a row. The three-monthly moving average was 595, as against 621 in August.
