International primary and secondary education
There are two types of international primary and secondary education in the Netherlands: private international schools and international divisions of Dutch schools. Private schools are not government subsidised, but international divisions of Dutch schools are. Currently, there are 18 private schools for international education or specifically aimed at American, British, German, French, Indonesian or Japanese education. Additionally, 11 Dutch primary schools, 1 school for special education and 9 schools for secondary education house an international division.
The article focuses on international primary and secondary education in the Netherlands. This type of education is predominantly aimed at foreign pupils of whom one parent is employed in the Netherlands. There are strict entry requirements for Dutch pupils, whereas international courses in secondary, higher and university education are accessible to Dutch students without any restrictions.
