Unemployment

The unemployed labour force includes all 15 to 64-year-olds who are unemployed or work less than 12 hours a week plus those who are seeking jobs for 12 hours a week or more and are instantly available.

In the 1930s, the 12-hours limit mentioned above was irrelevant. Unemployment was recorded on the basis of figures provided by trade unions and data from institutions engaged in poor relief.
