Not everybody requesting asylum in the Netherlands is allowed to stay and is entered into the GBA database. Asylum migrants are asylum seekers, status holders or refugees invited by the government to come and live in the Netherlands whose data are entered in the GBA database. Asylum migrants are usually registered some time after they submitted their request for asylum.
An asylum seeker is registered in the GBA database, after he/she has received a valid residence permit and has left the reception centre. Asylum seekers whose stay in a centre exceeds six months also qualify for registration in the GBA database. People living outside a refugee centre are registered, if they comply with all legal requirements concerning residence in the Netherlands.
