More toys sold
5 December and Christmas invariably boost toy sales in the last month of the year. In recent years, Dutch consumers bought approximately 40 percent of all toys sold annually in the last quarter. Although the amount of outlets has increased, specialised toy shops still dominate the market.
Last year, the turnover of toy shops totalled 840 million euro, about 14 percent up on 2006. Turnover increased by more than 10 percent, prices rose by about 3 percent. Toy shops also performed well in the first three quarters of 2008. Toy sales were nearly 7 percent up on the same period in the previous year.
