Job growth less substantial
In the third quarter, the number of jobs of employees was 113 thousand higher than in the same quarter one year previously, an increase by 1.4 percent. Employment has risen continuously for nearly 4 years now. Job growth was, however, less vigorous in the third quarter than in preceding quarters.
Employment is obviously subject to seasonal variation. After correction for seasonal effects, job growth nearly came to a halt. The number of jobs in the third quarter rose by an insignificant 0.1 percent relative to the second quarter of 2008.
The total number of jobs of employees (full-time plus part-time) in the Netherlands amounted to 8 million, corresponding to more than 6 million full-time jobs.
