Official regulation for the storage capacity of animal manure
This regulation came into effect on 1 July 2005. Under the regulation, livestock farmers are obliged to make provisions to store animal manure for a period of six months, long enough to cover the period 1 September to 1 March. Farms may have a smaller capacity if they can prove in writing that they remove animal manure from the farm in this period. This means that they must have a written contract, for example with an arable farm, before 1 September. Further exceptions may be made for farmers who graze their livestock in the autumn.
