More commercial wine growers in the Netherlands
The number of commercial wine growers in the Netherlands is rising rapidly. Last year, there were 68 wine-growing enterprises, more than twice as many as in 2003. In the province of Gelderland in particular, the number of wine growers has risen considerably. Currently, one quarter of commercial wine-growing enterprises is situated in Gelderland, followed by Limburg with 21 percent.
Vineyards covered 105 ha in 2007, as against 36 ha in 2003. The largest increases by 24 and 18 ha were found in Gelderland and Overijssel respectively. In the provinces of Limburg (7 ha) and Zeeland (5 ha), the agricultural area covered by vineyards has also increased since 2003.
