Continuous growth employment
The number of jobs of employees was 164 thousand higher in the second quarter of 2008 than in the second quarter of 2007, i.e. an increase of 2.1 percent. Employment has risen continuously since early 2005. Compared with the average job growth in 2007, the growth rate has slowed down marginally in the first six months of 2008.
The number of jobs of employees shows a distinct seasonal variation. After correction for seasonal effects, the number of jobs in the second quarter rose 0.4 percent relative to the first quarter of 2008. This is also slightly less than in the preceding quarters.
The total number of full-time and part-time jobs of employees in the Netherlands exceeded 8 million for the first time in the second quarter.
