Consumer confidence
The Consumer confidence survey is conducted during the first ten working days of each month.
The consumer confidence index is an indication of the economic situation of Dutch households. The index is based on the evaluation of the general economic climate and on how households evaluate their own financial situation.
The Consumer confidence survey interviews approximately one thousand households on a monthly basis and asks them five questions about the general economic situation in the Netherlands and about their own financial situation.
Respondents may conclude the economy is improving (the ‘optimists’), deteriorating (‘the pessimists’) or remaining stable. The indicators are calculated by subtracting the percentage of pessimists from the percentage of optimists.
