Dutch head of national accounts appointed chair of CMFB
Peter van de Ven, head of national accounts at Statistics Netherlands will take over the chair of the CMFB (the European Committee on Monetary, Financial and Balance of Payments Statistics) from the present chairman Hans Peter Glaab (Deutsche Bundesbank). In doing so he will become the third Dutch chairman, after Hans van Wijk (De Nederlandsche Bank) in the period April 1991 to April 1993, and Steven Keuning (Statistics Netherlands, now director-general of statistics at the ECB) in the period April 2001 to September 2002. The appointment of Peter van de Ven was officially confirmed during the CMFB meeting in Luxembourg, on 3-4 July . At the same meeting, João Cadete de Matos (Banco de Portugal) was appointed vice- chairman. Both appointments are for a period of two years.
The CMFB is a European advisory body in the field of macro-economic statistics, with a special focus on statistics common to the national statistical institutes and the central banks, and on statistics in the area of government finance (government deficit and debt).
