Biofuels for road vehicles
Biofuels for road vehicles are motor fuels produced from recently dead biological material. In the Netherlands they are not used in a pure form, but are mixed with fossil fuels. They are thus not recognisable at the petrol pump.
One litre of biofuel generates less energy than one litre of fossil motor fuel. For a reliable comparison, therefore, the percentage of biofuels is not calculated as the number of litres of fuel, but as the energy (in Joules) compared with the energy of the total amount of fuel sold.
