Everyone who has been employed with his or her present employer for at least one year is entitled to parental leave. The period of leave depends on the employee’s hours of work. In principle the following rule applies: the total number of hours of parental leave = 13 times the weekly working hours. It is up to the employer whether the employee continues to receive payment during parental leave, and if so how much. The parent must take the parental leave before the child concerned reaches 8 years of age.
