International trade with Brazil remains limited
Brazil is a relatively small trading partner for the Netherlands. In 2007, the Netherlands imported goods worth of 3.9 billion euro from Brazil, i.e. 1.3 percent of total Dutch imports. Dutch imports of Brazilian goods nevertheless increased substantially by no less than one third relative to 2006. Food products accounted for nearly 40 percent of total imports from Brazil. The Netherlands also imported large amounts of raw and auxiliary materials, like aluminium, iron ore and petroleum.
Exports of Dutch goods to Brazil are relatively low. Last year, the Netherlands exported 1.2 billion euro worth of goods to Brazil, constituting only 0.3 percent of total Dutch exports. Still, relative to 2006, the increase was more than 37 percent. Refined petroleum products, like gas oil and lubricants are the main export products.
