Bankruptcy rate invariably low
In February 2008, a total of 295 businesses and institutions (excluding one-man businesses) were declared bankrupt in the Netherlands, about the same number as in January 2008 and an increase by nearly 30 relative to February 2007.
As the number of businesses declared bankrupt in a particular month is closely related to the number of days courts are in session, it may vary strongly from month to month. Therefore, the three-monthly moving average is a more reliable indicator.
The three-monthly moving average stood at 272 in February, virtually equal to January. The indicator has not been this low since mid-2001.
