More cars exported, fewer dismantled
More and more cars start a new life abroad instead of being dismantled in Dutch scrap yards. In 2007, nearly 213 thousand cars were dismantled in Dutch scrap yards. The amount of cars being dismantled has diminished annually since 2000.
Last year, 283 thousand used Dutch cars were exported. For the third consecutive year, the number of cars exported from the Netherlands exceeds those being dismantled in Dutch scrap yards.
Dutch cars are popular in Poland, Lithuania, Belarus and Ukraine. Approximately half of cars exported went to these countries in 2007. The average age of the cars was 10.5 years. The average age of cars ending up in Dutch scrap yards was 15.5 years.
