Wind energy
The capacity of wind turbines is a measure for the maximum electricity output per unit of time. It is expressed in megawatt (1 MW = 1 million watts). The actual output of wind turbines may vary considerably and depends, for instance, on the amount of wind and the location. On average, slightly less than a quarter of the overall capacity of Dutch wind turbines is used.
Data on the generation of electricity from wind turbines are provided by Statistics Netherlands on the basis of the administration of CertiQ, the official issuing body of green electricity certificates. Information on the capacity of wind turbines and the amount of wind available to generate electricity is based on data provided by Wind Service Holland (WSH).
