Fewer residential building permits granted
The amount of building permits granted for newly built houses has declined by 16 percent in the first nine months of 2007 relative to one year previously. The number of dwellings completed has marginally grown by 1 percent.

Nearly 60 thousand building permits issued
In the period January–September 2007, nearly 60 thousand residential building permits were issued, an increase by more than 11 thousand compared to the same period last year. The decline mainly occurred in the first six months of 2007, but the number of residential building permits grew by over 5 thousand in the first nine months of 2007 relative to the same period.
Nearly 42 thousand new dwellings were completed in the first nine months of 2007. This is and increase by nearly 600 compared to the same period last year.
Stock of dwellings to be built hits record high
At the end of September 2007, the stock of houses to be completed stood at nearly 187 thousand, 5 percent up on one year ago. In 78 percent of these cases, building permits had been issued less than two years ago. At the end of September last year, 80 percent of building permits were less than two years old.
