Breast cancer mortality

Standardised figures are used to provide a realistic picture of breast cancer mortality over the years.
The direct method of standardisation is used, i.e. the average female population of the Netherlands in a particular year (1980) is taken to represent the standardised female population of the Netherlands. This method eliminates the effect of changes in age distribution of the population which might give rise to an increase or decrease in mortality risks.
