Prevocational secondary education

Pre-vocational training preparing for vocational training at the secondary level. It is a four-year course for students aged 12-16 with four tracks, each with a fixed curriculum and set final exams: VMBO theoretical programme, VMBO combined theoretical and vocational programme, VMBO middle-management vocational programme and VMBO basic vocational programme.

In each track, with the exception of the theoretical programme, pupils choose one of the following disciplines for the last two years: agriculture, engineering, economics and care.
This article refers only to VMBO middle management vocational and VMBO basic vocational programmes.
