School buildings for primary education

Primary education comprises ordinary and special needs primary education and special needs secondary education as laid down in the Act on Primary Education of 1 August 1998. Sources for this article are the Register of Educational Institutions and the Ministry of Education, Culture and Science.

One address can accommodate several types of (primary) schools. If that is the case, they are counted as one school building. Travelling schools are not included in the survey.

On 1 September this year 9,128 school buildings were registered with separate addresses (Basic Registration Educational Institutions); 9,064 were located by means of an address coordinate.
The distance between a school building and a major or provincial road is defined as the distance between the address coordinate – usually the front entrance – and the middle of the nearest major or provincial road.
