Care allowance

In 2006 the law on care insurance (ZVW) came into force. The financing of the new health care system raised the premiums substantially for certain income categories.

The government now compensates households that live below a given income level, to prevent them paying more than an acceptable share of their income. This compensation is called care allowance. It guarantees that care is within everyone’s financial reach.
