Considerable increase in export value of onions and seed potatoes
The export value of onions (including shallots and garlic) approached 250 million euro in the first half of 2007, nearly 29 percent up on the same period one year previously. The value of exports of seed potatoes grew by 35 percent to over 210 million euro.
Price increases almost entirely accounted for the rise in export value; exports of onions and seed potatoes fell by 10 and 2 percent respectively. Approximately 90 percent of onions and seed potatoes are exported to other countries in Europe and three quarters to EU member states.
